Journal of a Filipino Web Developer

Hello world! My name is Datch and I’m a Filipino Web Developer born and raised in the City of Olongapo, approximately 127 kilometers North of Manila, Philippines. It was late June of 2007 when I received an unexpected call overseas. Next thing I knew, I am off to Hong Kong for who knows how long.

I started writing when I was in elementary. I enrolled in a summer class for journalism and the following school year, I had been part of the school’s editorial staff. We represented our school for a prestigious writing competition later that year. Journalism, during those good old times, was the forte of our school. We may not be known for other competitions, but when it comes to journalism, we were sweeping the awards off.

It was kind of expected that most of our school paper’s writers will win in their respective events. And so they did. All except for me! Well, technically, there were two of us who did not win. But only because the other one got sick and did not pursue with her event. That was one of the most embarrassing and unforgettable moment in my life.

Embarrassing and frustrating as it may seem, I did not stop from writing. I continued to write for our school paper until high school and after that, personally through my diary. Had I not been a Web Developer, I probably would have had a career in writing.

I realized, as cliché as it may seem, that life is too short and so I try to live mine to the fullest. I have so many dreams but I don’t have any long term plans. I don’t think much about the future and I try to enjoy each day. I want to travel and I dream of seeing the other side of the world. Having said that, whatever I have learned, experienced and even realized each day, I will write about all those things. I want to share my life living abroad, views towards different cultures, books I read, movies I watched, inspirations I had, places I’ve been to, and the list goes on.

So… it was nice meeting you, too and I hope you’ll have fun reading my stuffs. Oh! And by the way, I think Audrey Hepburn was a really classy lady.
